SUMMARY:Hadestown Teen Edition (grades 8-12)
DESCRIPTION:Orpheus\, a hopeful young musician\, embarks on a perilous journey to the underworld to rescue his beloved Eurydice after she is lured there by the promise of security by the enigmatic ruler Hades. In the underworld\, Eurydice faces the harsh realities of Hadestown\, a factory where souls toil endlessly\, forgotten by the world above. Meanwhile\, the strained relationship between Hades and his wife Persephone mirrors the cycles of decay and growth\, influencing the fates of those below and above. \nHadestown is not only a narrative of individual journeys but also a commentary on societal issues such as power\, wealth\, and the resilience of human spirit in the face of adversity. With its emotive performances\, rich lyrical storytelling\, and dynamic score\, Hadestown offers a profound theatrical experience that invites audiences to question what it means to make sacrifices for love and to dream of a better world. \nGet Tickets: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/hadestown-teen-edition-grades-8–12

SUMMARY:Playing the Ukulele by Ear | A Workshop with Jim D'Ville
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wished you could play by ear? This workshop could change the way you listen to and play music. \nJoin Jim D’Ville on October 10th when his signature workshop comes to Apple Tree Arts! \nThere is a chord associated with each of the seven notes of a major scale. When played in context\, each chord evokes a certain emotional response from the listener. Learning these chordal relationships will open your ears to the chord progressions to millions of songs. This is the first step to learning to play by ear and could change the way you listen to and play music. Knowledge of finger positions for C\, Dm\, Em\, F\, G\, Am\, is helpful. \nGet tickets at: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/playing-the-ukulele-by-ear-a-workshop-with-jim-dville \nAbout Jim\nJim D’Ville is a music educator and facilitator who is on a mission to get ukulele players off the paper and playing music by ear. For nearly two decades Jim has taught his Play Ukulele By Ear workshops to tens of thousands of players in the United States\, Canada\, Australia\, Mexico\, and the United Kingdom. Jim has taught and performed at major ukulele events including the Ukulele Festival of Scotland\, Kerrville Folk Festival\, The NAMM Show\, Melbourne (Australia) Ukulele Festival\, West Coast Ukulele Retreat and many others. Jim is a Contributing Editor to Ukulele (magazine) and is sponsored in part by Ukulele\, and Aquila Strings of Italy. Jim is the author of the Play Ukulele By Ear video series\, and his Patreon site Pop Up Uke. \nWhat students are saying:\n“I have recommended this workshop to both new and seasoned players\, because of the way Jim D’Ville explains how and why\, instead of just what to do\, when learning\, playing and understanding music. This is time well spent learning about the heart of music… and enjoying the process!” \n– Bob Tigert\, Nashville\, TN \n“Jim’s Play Ukulele By Ear workshops are a high-energy roller coaster of learning and laughs. He is a one-of-a-kind. Buckle up!” \n– James Hill\, Ukulele Master \nGet tickets at: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/playing-the-ukulele-by-ear-a-workshop-with-jim-dville

Originally from Northern California\, Christine has forged a path through jazz and commercial entertainment and has sculpted the minds of young artists for over 20 years. \nEndorsed by the prestigious Bach corporation\, Christine was an innovative presence for 14 years on the Brass faculty at Berklee College of Music\, lending her talents to the Ear Training/Harmony\, Vocal\, Performance Studies and Ensemble Departments\, as well as evaluating student applicants through the Audition and Interview process. \nBerklee showcased her talents in countless performances\, recordings\, promotional materials\, and jazz clinics in several foreign partner schools. Downbeat Magazine noted Christine as “A distinctive performer with compelling dynamism\,” and Jack Bowers of All About Jazz\, touts her presence as “a performer who must be seen\, as well as heard to be suitably appreciated.” \nChristine was awarded third place in the 2017 International Sarah Vaughan Jazz Vocal Competition and has been selected as one of five finalists in the upcoming 2019 competition\, which will be held in Newark\, NJ on November 24\, 2019. Her lengthy tenure in the popular vocal jazz ensemble\, Syncopation\, included a featured performance in the 2009 Boston Pops July 4th Celebration\, among other distinguished festivals around the United States and Japan. Syncopation produced three recordings during this time\, including A New Dance\, Of Blue\, and Wonderful You\, and regularly performed throughout the Boston area with The Capitol Center Jazz Orchestra and Phil Wilson’s acclaimed Rainbow Band. \nFrom 2004-2009\, Christine was a member of the renowned DIVA Jazz Orchestra\, garnering exposure nationally and internationally\, including appearances at Carnegie Hall\, Apollo Theater\, and Lincoln Center with legendary artists such as Johnny Mandel and Tommy Newsom. Her stunning singing and trumpet playing were regularly featured with DIVA\, including an unforgettable vocal performance at Dizzy’s Club in the 2016 Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas tribute concert. \nChristine’s natural ability to captivate audiences and endless musical versatility have made her an in-demand trumpet player in New York\, Boston\, and around the country. Her performances with Wilson Stevens\, The Rat Pack\, The Disney Corporation\, Bose\, and Adele have featured her soulful musicality to diverse audiences around the world. She is also regularly invited to teach clinics\, master classes\, and perform concerts for the Jazz Education Network and National Music Educators Association\, and other conferences. \nChristine has recorded four albums as a leader. Her first\, entitled Happy Talk (2003)\, is a collaboration with legendary trombonist and Grammy Award nominated arranger Phil Wilson. She stretched her creativity on her second album\, My Side\, (2013) to feature her original pop and jazz compositions. A return to her more traditional jazz roots is displayed in the 2016 album entitled Here Now. Her latest release\, Christine Fawson Sings Jazz (2018) features her contemporary adaptations of favorite selections from the Great American Songbook.
