Community Chorus

All are invited to sing with the Grafton Community Chorus! Under the direction of Tom Hojnacki, the Grafton Community Chorus performs twice a year with an eclectic repertoire of music that includes music from classical, art songs, modern, pop, and Broadway.

No experience is necessary, no audition required.  If you love to sing, love to belong to a community, and would love to spend one night a week making music in a non-threatening and fun atmosphere, we welcome you!

Rehearsals on Tuesdays 7-9pm starting January 9th. Concert is scheduled for May 4th.

Tuition: $130 per concert

 

Foundational Voice for Teens and Adults

In a 9-Week group lesson format, students will learn the basics of vocal sound production, build confidence in their performance skills, and discover a supportive singing community. Students will begin to explore their voices as musical instruments, with an approach rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and playfulness. No prior singing or musical experience required. If you’ve always wanted to learn the basics of singing, then this is the right place for you!

Basic Music Theory for Teens and Adults

This 9 week course will cover the most basic rudiments of music theory. Note identification on the grand staff, use of accidentals, intervals, major scales up to 3 sharps and 3 flats, chord spelling and basic harmonic function in the major key. Simple meters, rhythmic notation in quarter note based meters through the eighth note, ties and the rhythm dot. Class will include analysis of music and practice of aural skills that focus on hearing the scale steps and intervals of the major scale as well as identifying and transcribing basic rhythms. Perfect for college prep!

Guitar 101 for Teens and Adults

Learning Guitar can be simple and fun!!!

In this class, we will learn the Fundamentals of the Guitar. We will learn how to tune a guitar, hold a guitar, and strum a guitar. We will learn about all the different components of the instrument: the neck, the body, the frets, the headstock, and the sound hole.

The chords C, D, G, F, A, Em, Am and Fm will be taught. These chord shapes will be used to play songs by The Beatles, Taylor Swift, The Arctic Monkeys, and other popular artists. We will utilize the Major Scale to create melody.

No prior Guitar or musical knowledge is necessary and by the end of this course, you will be able to play and create music on the guitar!

Keyboard Lab for Adults

Keyboard Lab for Adults (New offering! All levels): Why should the kids have all the fun?!? Whether you’ve always wanted to take piano lessons or you want to polish up long-unused keyboard skills, this group class is for you. Top off your Monday in a relaxed, supportive setting with other music lovers. Piano faculty member Becky Lightcap will oversee participants’ self-directed learning, offering individualized repertoire and practice tips, as well as group learning as appropriate. Each evening’s session will end with a short social time and may include an optional opportunity to play for one another.

Beginners, please purchase in advance Alfred’s Basic Adult All-in-One Piano Course

Participants with some keyboard experience, please bring one or two of your piano books to the first class.

Ukulele Skill Building - Level II

This class is for folks ages 13 & up who already play the ukulele and are interested in improving their skills by learning more chords, strum patterns, tablature and basic fingerpicking techniques. The focus of this class will be on learning left hand dexterity for chords and right hand strumming and fingerpicking skills. We’ll also learn different ways to interpret and perform songs. Bring your own ukulele and let’s have some fun!

Prerequisites:

  • A working ukulele
  • Tuner (electronic tuner or phone app)
  • Knowledge of basic chords: C, C7, F, G, G7, Am

Ukulele Mastery - Level III

This class is for anyone ages 13 & up who has already mastered the skills in my Ukulele Skill Building class and is looking to extend their mastery of the ukulele even further. Perhaps you’d like to add more dynamics to your strumming? Maybe there’s a specific fingerpicking pattern you’d like to learn? This class will be very interactive based on the class participation and direction from the students on a week-to-week basis.

Prerequisites:

  • A working ukulele
  • Tuner (electronic tuner or phone app)
  • Mastery of basic chords, knowledge of barred chords
  • Some experience strumming the “Island Strum”, Chuck, and 3/4 strumming patterns.
